CAMHS Senior Liaison Practitioner

Meditemp are have an exciting new oppotunity for a Senior Liaison Practitioner CAMHS role in Westminster, London. This CAMHS Senior Liaison Practitioner role is suitable for Registered Nurses and Allied Professionals. The primary function of this role is to work as a highly experienced mental health practitioner carrying out first line specialist assessments and crisis risk management plans within the Emergency Department (ED) as part of the Mental Health Liaison Team (MHLT).


Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Lead as a senior psychiatric liaison practitioner in A&E in triage decision making for the service and within the MDT and acting as a specialist clinical resource for the ED for adolescents / adults from the age of 16 – 25. 
  • To serve as the first point of contact for ED referrals and to proactively screen and receive referrals from ED and respond in a timely manner
  • To work autonomously using sound decision-making skills within the clinical setting in relation to the assessment of mental health and physical health needs of designated patients in A&E
  • To undertake and record comprehensive risk assessment, devise and implement risk assessment plans for patients at risk of vulnerability, self-harm, self-neglect, or risk of physical, sexual, emotional harm to others, using the agreed risk assessment documentation for the service.
  • To have ongoing discussions with medical colleagues about medical/substance misuse related to their presentations.
  • To make clinical decisions as to whether a patient is medically triaged appropriately before transferring/referring to other pathways e.g. crisis café, adult services, Community CAMHS, CAMHS Response etc.
  • Teaching and training is an intrinsic part of a senior liaison staff. The post holder is expected to seek out appropriate opportunities to contribute to the delivery of health education at ED.

 Registered Mental Health Nurse essential skills:

  • The ability to observe, assess and respond appropriately to patient needs
  • Prepare and maintain patient records
  • Implement evidence-based care plans and risk assessments
  • Ensure the correct administration and monitoring of medication
  • Comply with your professional code of conduct at all times
  • The ability to build and maintain professional and therapeutic relationships with patients and their families
  • To keep calm under pressure and when dealing with challenging or confrontational behaviour;
  • Good organisation and problem-solving skills
  • Manage and communicate sensitive information effectively
  • Effective team work skills
